Eradicating Pacific rats (Rattus exulans) from Nu'utele and Nu'ulua Islands, Samoa - some of the challenges of operating in the tropcial Pacific

Abstract

In this paper we describe the methods used to plan and implement the eradication of Pacific rats from the Aleipata islands; outline the challenges faced by such projects in relatively remote tropical locations; describe the outcomes achieved; and discuss biosecurity procedures and the implications of the re-detection of rats on Nu’utele.
