Abstract
Through the PROTEGE project, the territory of Wallis & Futuna has sought to strengthen its management of invasive alien species (IAS), and in particular border biosecurity. Territorial biosecurity is an essential element in guaranteeing the protection and maintenance of the way of life of Pacific island populations, by preventing the entry and establishment of biological agents likely to have harmful effects on the various economic and health sectors, as well as on the environment. In addition to a review of regulations, which has led to a number of advances in terms of biosafety, Wallis and Futuna has sought to develop operational procedures and resources to enable its full and effective implementation. The Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) operational plan meets this objective. It aims to strengthen coordination between the various players involved in biosecurity on the territory, to guarantee the support of the authorities, particularly the customary authorities, and to ensure vigilance and observation by all to detect any new appearance or spread of IAS.
