Abstract
This report presents the results of the characterization and sectorization of the PROTEGE project intervention zones in New Caledonia, within the three priority zones selected by the technical group. The aim of this sectorization work is to help determine, within the three priority zones, areas of around 10,000 ha corresponding to optimal intervention zones (ZI) for ungulate population regulation operations, in particular professional ground and/or helicopter-based regulation. The methodological approach adopted to identify the intervention zones within each of the three Priority Zones is based on the characterization of the "deer risk", which represents the potential level of threat generated by deer on the various issues present within the ZP. The calculation of this level of risk is based on (i) deer pressure, which can be expressed in terms of abundance, frequentation, concentration or historical level of degradation; (ii) the degree of stake from an environmental point of view (intrinsic value of biodiversity or ecosystem services rendered) or from an anthropic point of view (e.g. agricultural areas).
