Regional forums and platforms for exchanges on IAS - Final lessons-learned factsheet - PROTEGE

Abstract

Cooperation between the four territories and other Pacific countries and territories has been significantly strengthened through their participation in regional stakeholder network events, joint study tours and online exchange platforms. The main aim of this cooperation has been to bring together stakeholders facing similar problems, so that they can exchange knowledge, tools and experiences in the fight against invasive alien species (IAS). By enabling the four OCTs to take part in the two meetings of the Pacific Invasive Species Learning Network (PILN), the project has fostered exchanges of experience and valuable emulation with 18 countries and territories in the region. In addition, the participation of agents from the territories in a regional exchange dedicated to biosecurity, as well as in a certifying study tour on key skills in the fight against IAS, enabled links to be forged through discussions and joint learning. The introduction of an English/French translation interface on online regional cooperation platforms will facilitate the integration of Wallis and Futuna, New Caledonia and French Polynesia into the dynamics of knowledge sharing, information feedback and project structuring. At the end of the project, the mobilization of the Pacific Fund could be envisaged to respond to the wish of French territories to continue their participation in regional events, while their integration in the PILN network and access to associated resources have been perpetuated.
