PROTEGE N°4 project final report on professional ground control actions, action period from May 2023 to May 2024

Abstract

In order to make a significant and lasting contribution to reducing the damage caused by deer and pigs in particularly remote and difficult-to-access high-altitude rainforests, and thereby to preserving water resources, one of the major objectives of the PROTEGE project's "Invasive Ungulates" component was to develop and implement, for the first time on the territory, professional ground-based regulation actions in three priority areas, using agents who had been previously and specifically trained and equipped. as a result, 25 dispatchers (13 operators and 12 assistants) were trained between September 5 and 18, 2022, in two seven-day sessions comprising 10 training modules. Professional ground control operations were carried out from May 2023 to May 2024, during which 97 missions were completed.
